Welcome to the Safety and Technical (S&T) Committee of the Australian Airline Pilots’ Association (AusALPA). AusALPA represents more than 6,000 Australian pilots and is a member association of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA), which represents 100,000 pilots globally. AusALPA promotes and implements IFALPA’s mission statement which is:

“To be the global voice of airline pilots, to promote the highest level of aviation safety world-wide and to provide representation, services and support to all of its Member Associations.”

One of the main ways that this is achieved is through our S&T Committee and its eight Portfolios: Accident Analysis and Prevention (AAP), Aerodrome and Ground Environment (AGE), Aircraft Design and Operations (ADO), Air Traffic Services (ATS), Helicopters (HEL), Human Performance (HUPER), Legal/Professional Government Affairs (LEG/PGA) and Security and Dangerous Goods (SEC/DG) and, most importantly, through its S&T Representatives, like you!

Every time you step onto the flight deck, you are protected by safety standards that have been won by your Association through the hard work and dedication of its representatives, your predecessors, so you are following a great tradition. AusALPA influences aviation safety standards internationally through IFALPA, which links upwards to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

To this end, we will train you to build rapport with these organisations and to provide a resource to AusALPA and to them; and thereby to become actively involved in relevant safety and technical work locally and nationally and, in time, internationally.

On behalf of your fellow pilots, thank you for volunteering to help enhance the safety and operational efficiency of the aviation industry.

Welcome aboard!
